Mayor Elect-Greg Collins & Wife Robin
The new Mayor elect of Kemah, Greg Collins,  was the Councilman who placed the Appraisal Cap resolution, at the request of Kemah citizens,  on the agenda. The council passed the resolution in support of the 5% apraisel cap. One blogger named Gracey,  wrote "When we don't make the income to cover our expenses we need to prioritize our "appetite" to fit our income." Governments must be made to do the same?

Government, not satisfied to live within its citizens means will  be faced by angry citizens who will find fiscally conservative representatives who will. The elected officials & bureaucrats of government need note that the election in Kemah/Friendswood was not a quirk or unique it is and was the trend all over the state.

John LeCour and Chris Peden won big, for the taxpayers of Friendswood and the whole state of Texas on Saturday!  In the "unofficial" vote totalsLeCour won Position 2 with 1915 votes to Lonnie Moffitt's 1132 votes (62% to 37%).  Peden won Position 5 with 2043 votes to Kitten Brizendine's 1003 votes (67% to 32%)! The taxpayers didn't just speak, they roared!
The candidates were obviously very pleased, but also very humble in their victory.  They thanked  the  voters  for  their  support  and encouragement  and  recognized  the  large contingent  of  "time for a change"  voters!

GALVESTON, Texas — President Bush  only the 4th President to visit Galveston, brought  his Social Security restructuring campaign to a county where public employees began opening personal retirement accounts two decades ago. The President said the rest of the country could learn from their experience. Bush was joined  by five participants in the Galveston plan, including the Galveston county judge, Jim Yarbrough, and a county retiree, Kathryn Novelli, who said she had benefited financially from the Galveston retirement plan.

Legislation to cap property tax at 5% was defeated by incumbents
April 12, 2005 -- Legislation to cap property tax  appraisals and give much needed relief to over burdened home owners was defeated by the Texas House of Representatives  on Tuesday handing a victory to Texas Association of Counties, Texas Conference of Urban Counties and the Texas Municipal League lobbyist who fought against the caps. "They Whooped as they killed it."

Debated Tuesday in the House

House Joint Resolution 35: Would amend the Texas Constitution to decrease the amount by which property tax appraisals can increase annually from 10 percent to 5 percent and would extend the cap to all property. Failed in the House 81-65.

Here is how Galveston County area
representatives voted on a motion Tuesday

to reject a proposal for property appraisals to be capped at 5 percent a year.
A yes vote was to effectively kill the legislation:

Yes Craig Eiland, D-Galveston  No Larry Taylor, R-Friendswood
