Smaller Communities  Also Aid Hurricane Katrina Evacuees
Media coverage of the relief efforts, of  small communities like Kemah, TX, are spotty at best going largely unreported.  Thanks to  the leadership of Kemah's elected officials, city government officials and city employees, early evacuees were fed, housed and given shelter by Tuesday,

Mayor, City of Kemah, Greg Collins back row far left and Council Woman, Mayor Pro -Tem, Kelly Williams back row far right identified 150 evacuees in area motels and B & B's in need of assistance. One of the numerous ways the City helped the evacuees was to form an alliance with Kemah Elks Lodge President, Angel Dodson. Elk volunteers  using  the Lodge facility on Hanson Rd along with City employees,  Employees of the Kemah Police Dept. and others in the community pitched in too and cooked, fed and cleaned up after 150 people in less than four hours at the that first lunch.
