U.S. Ready to Sit Down With Iran, Europeans
The United States will join European leaders in their talks with Iran
on its nuclear program if Iran stops enriching uranium, Secretary of

Preparedness
becomes the operative word
Houston Chronicle -
United States ... "If you live in a storm surge (area), staying is
not an option," said former Kemah Mayor Bill King, a
member of Gov. Rick Perry's hurricane task force. ...
The Senate passed
legislation last week that Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) hailed as "the
most far-reaching immigration reform in our history." You might think
that the first question anyone would ask is how much it would actually
increase or decrease legal immigration. But no. After the Senate
approved the bill by 62 to 36, you could not find the answer in the
news columns of The Post or the New York Times. Yet the estimates do
exist and are fairly startling. By rough projections, the Senate bill
would double the legal immigration that would occur during the next two
decades from about 20 million (under present law) to about 40 million.
One job of journalism is to inform the public about what our political
leaders are doing. In this case, we failed. The Senate bill's sponsors
didn't publicize its full impact on legal immigration, and we didn't
fill the void. It's safe to say that few Americans know what the bill
would do because no one has told them. Indeed, I suspect that many
senators who voted for the legislation don't have a clue as to the
potential overall increase in immigration.

As far as
the powerful chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee is
concerned, the controversial Senate bill on immigration reform is as
dead as a duck.
Appearing Tuesday on "Lou Dobbs Tonight," Rep. Peter King,
R-N.Y., told Dobbs that he couldn’t imagine how the Senate bill "could
ever be considered in the House of Representatives [when] the
overwhelming majority of Republicans are against it.” This, he said "is
amnesty. The more the senators deny it, Democrat and Republican, the
more they deny it, the more the president denies it, it's amnesty. And
the American people don't want it. I've never seen a disconnect between
the will of the people and the actions of elected officials as we've
seen in the Senate.

The Man Who Sold Galveston
Island
By Randy L. Almaguer
When the largest parcel of land was sold on Galveston
Island there was one more person at the closing table that few people
know about. David Boatner, a broker and real estate developer, was the
person who pulled together the largest single land sale on Galveston
Island.
A long time before Marquette Land Investments, the general
partner in the development, knew about the opportunity David Boatner
was trying to find a way to bring the largest land deal in Galveston’s
history to reality.
David Boatner is not new to high stakes negotiations and
large complicated business deals. Mr. Boatner’s experience as a
corporate executive with telecommunications corporations such as SBC
and start up companies like Williams Telecommunications, McLeodUSA and
Splitrock have served him well in the world of high stakes real estate
development. David has been a licensed real estate broker since 1983,
although for the majority of the time he did actively practice real
estate. When he retired from his last start up venture, David decided
to leverage his business experience and create a commercial development
company. Needless to say his Galveston 1,050 acre deal is a pretty high
mark to beat.
Mr. Boatner was extremely familiar with what Galveston
Island had to offer. As a broker David is the Broker of Record for
Galveston’s Castaway’s Resort Properties owned by Hal & Paula
Gregory. “Our family has owned a beach house on the island and I
have always believed that Galveston was a fantastic place to live and
vacation. I often commented about the large tract of land on FM 3005
and thought it would be a great master planned community”, David said.
Living in The Woodlands, Texas David knows what a true master planned
community should look and feel like.
David began the long process of discussing the possible
sale of the land with long time owners O. Donald Chapoton and John
“Buck” Chapoton. “Donald & Buck were very concerned about the
planning and use of the land” he said. We had many meetings and
discussions about it. The Chapoton family wanted to give the island a
quality development. I know their decision was not just about the
money,” Boatner explained.
As the deal grew and the discussions became proposals and
hand drawn sketches became land planning designs, David knew it was
time to bring in a major league developer to be part of the development
team. “Marquette Land Investments has a great reputation and was
everything we were looking for”, David said. David still retained
partial ownership of the overall project in a limited partnership
capacity.
On January 20, 2005 David Boatner, Real Estate Broker
& Developer sat at the table with everyone else and closed the
largest land deal in Galveston’s history. Although he will not boast
about it, quietly he is happy knowing that he will forever more have a
record that will never be broken.
David Boatner is President of Octa Road Properties which
specializes in commercial real estate development, brokerage and
consulting.

Diet Guru Knows What He’s Talking About Arthur
Agatston, whose book “The South Beach Diet” reached No. 1 on the New
York Times bestseller list, was the featured speaker at the fourth
annual luncheon marking women's health week at the University of Texas
Medical Branch. In
regard to the story, “South Beach Diet creator offers advice” (The
Daily News, May 16): This is one diet guru who knows what the heck he
is talking about. After years
of struggling, I am three pounds away from a 100 pound weight loss. Even when I
hit the dreaded dieters plateau, the food was so good, instead of
giving it up, I visited a registered nutritionist who told me to stay on South
Beach. She added a
special blend of vitamins and minerals that are available everywhere
and, bam, I was back on my way down. The South Beach Diet and the
vitamins and minerals (VIBE) may well have saved my life.I know it saved my health. And you
can live on this diet for the rest of your life. You will
never convince me the vitamins and minerals were not a big part of my weight loss successes even one
year later I am still not gaining my weight back. I am no longer craving food
from some whole in my nutrition and I have more energy than I have had
in 20 years.

'Milblogs' Present Iraq War From Military Point of View
FOXNEWS
As the war in Iraq and the national debate over it
continue, military-themed American bloggers have been voicing their
support for U.S. troops and, in most cases, the war itself.
"We're not only fighting a physical war, we're fighting an
information war as well," said "Andi C.," organizer of the first annual
MilBlog Conference, which took place last month in Washington.
"The Bush administration and the DoD [Department of
Defense] have not been very effective in the information war,"
explained Andi C., who, like many "milbloggers," prefers not to use her
full name. "Milblogs have been doing the heavy lifting. Both entities
could learn a thing or two from milbloggers."

Presedent Theodore Roosevelt on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907 "In the first place, we should insist that if the
immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and
assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality
with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any
such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is
predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American and
nothing but an American. There can be no divided allegiance here. Any
man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an
American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We
have room for but one language here, and that is the English
language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a
loyalty to the American people."

FBI's Mueller: Hezbollah Busted in Mexican
Boarder Smuggling Operation
FBI Director
Robert Mueller said this week that his agency busted a smuggling ring
organized by the terrorist group Hezbollah that had operatives cross
the Mexican border to carry out possible terrorist attacks inside the
U.S.
"This was an occasion in which Hezbollah operatives were
assisting others with some association with Hezbollah in coming to the
United States,” Mueller told a House Appropriations subcommittee during
a Tuesday hearing on the FBI's budget.
In a stunning revelation, Mueller
admitted that Hezbollah had succeeded in smuggling some of its
operatives across the border, telling the House committee:
"That was an organization that we dismantled and identified those
persons who had been smuggled in. And they have been addressed as
well.” MORE

Should ILLEGAL aliens be entitled to receive Social Security benefits?
Center for
Individual Freedom
According to the United States Senate, the answer is "YES!"
"ILLEGALS GRANTED SOCIAL SECURITY"
That was a front-page headline in Friday's Washington
Times. According to Times reporter Charlie Hurt, "The Senate
voted yesterday to allow illegal aliens to collect Social Security
benefits based on past illegal employment -- even if the job was
obtained through forged or stolen documents."
This is what happened...
As the Senate continued to debate immigration reform legislation this
week, Senator John Ensign offered an amendment that would have
prevented illegal aliens who engaged in unlawful activity within the
Social Security system from receiving benefits. The Senate
effectively DEFEATED the Ensign amendment by a vote of 50-49 !
You can view the actual roll call vote here.
After the vote, Senator Ensign stated: "There was a felony they
were committing, and now they can't be prosecuted. That sounds like
amnesty to me... It just boggles the mind how people could be against
this amendment."
Demand that they suspend debate on any and all amnesty
provisions once and for all. Demand they focus solely on securing

Rep. Taylor Makes Top Ten
List for Most Conservative Legislator
(AUSTIN,
TX) Since the start of 2006, Representative Larry Taylor
(R-Friendswood) has been recognized by three major entities as one of
the leading conservative members among his colleagues in the Texas Legislature.
Mike Hailey's Capitol
Inside is an established online news source reporting on Texas
politics. In early January of this year, the website released the
2005 Top Legislators, naming Taylor as one of the ten most conservative
Texas House members. The results were
based on a system called the Conservative Voting Index (CVI), a
compilation of scores assigned to state lawmakers by four Texas
political organizations that analyzed key votes. The CVI is based
on an average of scores assessed by the Texas Eagle Forum, the Young
Conservatives of Texas, and Heritage Alliance, formerly known as
FreePac. Scores assessed by the Texas Association of Business and
Capitol Inside were also factored into the final equation. During a
conference held in Austin of this year, Texas Association of Business
(TAB) recognized Rep. Taylor with their highest achievement award as a
Champion for Free Enterprise. TAB's legislative voting record,
covering the 79th regular session and two special sessions of the Texas
Legislature, grades lawmakers on a series of votes affecting the
business climate. "Keeping score is
never easy and never perfect, but if a constituent wants a clear
picture how his or her legislator is voting on broad-based business
issues, this is the scorecard to consult," said TAB President Bill
Hammond. In April of this
year, Americans for Prosperity named Taylor as Defender of the American
Dream, one of 38 lawmakers receiving an "A" grade for his commitment to
reducing spending and protecting taxpayers. "While many of our
elected officials talk about reducing the size of government and
delivering meaningful tax relief to Texans, these 38 Representatives
have backed up those words with votes," State Director Peggy
Venable said. "This award proves these lawmakers to be consistent
and effective allies in our battle to hold the line on spending, limit
the size of government, and empower taxpayers." Representative
Taylor is currently serving his second term in the Texas House of
Representatives as a member of the 79th Legislature. He
represents District 24 in Galveston County and serves on the House
Business & Industry, Insurance, and House Administration Committees.
